Selection criteria checker for Australian applications.
Paste a criterion and your draft answer. You get it scored out of ten the way a public sector panel would, the four checks it passed or failed, and the weakest line in your draft quoted back with what to do about it.
What a panel scores
Australian selection criteria responses are assessed against a rubric, not read for general impression. Four things decide most of it.
01
A clear claim
The first sentence should state plainly that you have the capability. Panels read a lot of applications and a wind-up costs you the opening they use to orient themselves.
02
Specific evidence
One occasion, with real detail, in Situation, Task, Action, Result form. A description of what your job involves is not evidence, because it could be written by anyone who held the job.
03
A measurable result
Something that changed, with a number where you have one. Not that the project succeeded, but what was different afterwards.
04
First person
Panels cannot give you credit for what a team did. Saying we hides whether you led it or attended. This is the single most common reason good applicants lose marks.
Common questions
What is this checking?
The four things Australian selection panels score: whether you open with a clear claim, whether you give one specific example rather than a description of your duties, whether you finish with a measurable result, and whether you write in first person. It also checks whether you have answered every part of the criterion, since criteria often bundle two or three requirements into one sentence.
Does it write the answer for me?
No, and deliberately so. Public sector panels check references and probation exists, so an answer built on someone else's experience is a bad idea. This tells you what is missing from your own draft so you can fix it.
Which application types does this suit?
Any Australian role assessed on written criteria. Commonwealth APS pitches, NSW targeted questions against focus capabilities, state health and education criteria, local council essential and desirable criteria, and university positions.
What score should I be aiming for?
Seven or above means the structure is doing its job and a panel can score it. Below that, the most common cause is an example that describes a responsibility rather than a specific occasion, or a missing result at the end.
Do you keep what I paste?
No. The text is sent for assessment and then discarded. It is never stored, never sold, and never used to train AI models.
